I'm sorry but what an ass. Months he let the debt pile up and lied to her. Then to just disappear (no warning)for some more months. Yeah she took a horrible job, but she was doing what she could for the kids. And she did it without dragging his name though the mud to them (can't say I'm be able to hold my tongue). Now to just show up and expect her and the kids to leave with him. Not to mention its some mafia thing. Great. I hope she doesn't go forgiving him in the next 2 chapters.
