The actors in "Shindler's List" with Liam Neeson did look like concentration camp victoms.
My father in law was in WWII and was one of the groups that released people from a concertation camp. He had been given a bucket of eggs in a village they passed through on the way to the camp. When the gates opened and the first people came out, he gave the eggs to one of the men. He said that the man dropped to his knees and kissed his feet thanking him. Dad was first generation Itilian american but spoke Itilian. I believe that he was in Germany at that time.

Ha, you are so right. When we reach the sequel, which I hope you will also read, you will see that I have given to women (well, female vampires) a great role. Is not that I was making a point, it is just the way I saw the events unfolding. I think that even the Canon Bella of the Twilight saga is stronger than Edward. Her physical frailty obscures it, but the strength is there. What I love in Breaking Dawn (I am always defending the book from many detractors) is that when Bella is changed her strength shines, she really becomes the White Queen -A very insightful book cover the BD one!. And Edward shows how much he loves her by gracefully deferring to her. He is finally mature. (Note that a lot of men, on discovering that their wife is stronger than them, would sulk or get a mistress, or both).

Behind a good man there is often a woman, so I suppose that if Egon was anti nazi and a potential hero it was due to how his mother raised him. Germany was being bombed so heavily when Egon dies that I suppose his mother too didn't survive the war.

33 chapters in all, and many things have to happen yet. In a weird way I am following canon. My Edward is having his "vigilante" period, killing nazis and German soldiers instead of common criminals. You know what happened to Canon Edward then. It will happen to this Edward too.

Gorgeous, isn't he? I also don't know who he is but I found him on a French site (homme nu is the image's name). I have a different one posted on another story, The Archer, also in TWCS, and I could not believe I would find another as good, but I did. (You could give a try to The Archer, only 5 chapters, historical, supernatural but no vamps).
Coming back to my beloved Parachutist, the next chapter will be very long (for my standards) and we will see Edward how other people in the Resistance saw him.

Edward has already demonstrated that his decency as a human has somewhat survived his change.

The way they were trying to sneak Edward out of danger might have worked, if not for vampires. Well, the best laid plans can always get messed up, especially in war time. I'm wondering if Edward's ability to hear thoughts was what sealed his fate? No doubt the trio in the church must have discovered his talent. Now comes the hard part, while he wrestles with what he's become.

Yes, one of the men (well, vampires) in the church was Eleazar - the first to leave. but he had sensed that Edward had had a telephatic episode and so they decided to change the talented human. The other two remained behind to do the deed.
Eleazar will come up again in the Parachutist's sequel, which I'll post here too.
Obviously, the next chapters will be quite dark.

How sweet that they learn to love together. That's the way it should be, and often isn't. How sad that young people deprive themselves of that mutual gift. Never any doubt in my mind that Edward would propose to his Isabella. Yes, it is sad because he's about to be seperated from her, for who knows how long.I'm holding a good thought for them, that all will turn out well.

Small surprise at Isetta/Isabella's secret. Their shared background, losing their parents will only bind them closer. War time made everything more intense, more immediate, as time could be so short and changes, instant. I'm sure many relationships were spurred on by the threat of losing each other to war's dangers. I'm wondering what's next for Edward and Isabella. One good thing is his renewed love for music.

Well, the next chapter's title is "Lovers", so you know what is going to happen. A little interlude, that I tried to make realistic, both being very inexperienced. And they will be happy, for a while...

The church was silent maybe because the funeral attendees were appreciative of the music's beauty? Just a guess. It didn't take Edward too long to realize he was falling in love with Isetta. I'm really curious as to what her secret is going to be, and how it will affect Edward's feelings. Looking forward to finding out!

Yes, appreciative... the only other possibility when an Italian worth his salt listens to Va Pensiero is to start singing... Not possible at a funeral.
As for the secret you have only to wait for a few days... But I have given plenty of clues...

Ah, young love, and in war time, too! Edward is doing his best to fit in and be useful . If in doing that he spends more time in Isetta's company, so much the better! I'm thinking her father may be a professor, or some other personage of prominence, perhaps wanted by the fascista? Best guess, as I'm not terribly imaginative. Edward will have quite the adventure in the north of Italy, provided he has no use for his cyanide pill! I imagine a lot of G.I's did as Edward and Joe Caputo, promising to get in touch after the war. Wonder how many managed to do it? I smiled at the vision EDward had of Dr. Cullen leaping on the deer. Little did he know that he was watching dinner time!

Well, the cyanide pill will have a role and I needed Edward to have it. But, what a research I had to do, because American soldiers, even behind enemly lines, were not issued one. But, of course, secret services abide by their own rules. I suppose Colonel Thompson got them from the Brits.
In Northern Italy Edward will grow and find love. I am leaving for a few days so I'll post again next Monday. The I hope to have more frequent posts.

This conversation between Carlisle and Edward gave us a few clues, not only to Edward's background but possibly to the good doctor also. I'm betting the facial scars and gloves are camoflauge so his skin doesn't sparkle! This mission he has in mind for Edward is no doubt what gets him too close to the Volturi, and in big trouble.

I don't know if you are one for visiting websites and the like - I was a total klutz until my friend Raum tutored me (do give a try to her amazing story De Immortalitate at fanfiction net - vampires in the Roman Empire!). She has opened a thread for both The Parachutist and its sequel (posted on ff net too, until I have finished with the parachutist here). On the thread, for instance, a very good point has been raised about "the dark side" of vampires, even the veggie ones. It would be a debate worth having. So if you feel like it, you could visit the thread at Twilighted net. I can send you the Url, but you have to subscribe to the thread.

I am Italian and to write more than 2500 words in English really tires me. So my chapters are seldom longer than this. BUT, I can update more frequently. August is a little hectic, I'll travel again soon, but I will try to post another chapter before that. In September things will be back to normal, I hope.

When Edward talked of missing the action in North Africa, it made me think of my dad, who was still alive in 1943, flying B-24's out of North Africa. He died in May,1944, over the oil fields of Ploesti. I was so happy to finally visit his grave at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis, Missouri, in March, 2003. Quite a trip from Yakima, Washington! Sounds like Edward is doing okay, so far. I'm curious as to who Captain Cullen is, too. Poor thing sounds as if he's horribly disfigured, but good for him wanting to serve! I can tell this is going to be a good story!

Sorry for your dad. and yes, quite far indeed. Will you believe I have been in Yakima? In 1991 we drove from San Francisco to Seattle with a lot of deviations to see things we were curious about. Places where tourists don't normally go. We, for instance wanted to see Native Americans. Which, adding the rainforest, is the main reason we did a round of the Olympic Peninsula too - little I knew that it would become a place of my heart years later!
In The Parachutist I poured a little of my soul and of my family story. I hope you'll like it. Recently, btw, it won second place in the Shimmer awards as "oustanding story". Let me hear from you as you progress reading, if you can.
