Wonderful first date, kissing and hugging included! When they take the kids, picnics, parks and museums come to mind. A lot depends on what they are interested in doing, hobbies, etc. A double date with Rose and Emmett should be a lot of fun, too! Bella is right, Jake did a great job, sending Edward her way! It's so nice that she feels that way , and that Billy does, too! It has to mitigate the guilt somewhat.

Excellent chapter! Family friendly dates? Are you familiar with Dave & Busters! It's a restaurant/upscale arcade usually found in bigger cities. Edward could bond with John over the more sports oriented games & Cassie on the tamer ones.
Ice skating, hiking, home made pizza & a movie? Just think food & fun and you'll be fine!

I think it was a perfect first date. Good job Edward! It was casual enough to keep Bella comfortable but still had a touch of romance and they were able to talk about important things. Regarding the date with the kids, is it going to be around Forks or are they going to seattle? I know the Forks area doesn't have a lot but they could always do a movie or the park. But Seattle has a great museum of Science or there is also the Expereince Music Project. It is basicly a museum about music and pop culture but it has a lot of hands on stuff where you can try different instruments (I keep picturing Rob there). I look forward to reading about the next step on their journey. I think the idea about Bella having a sleepover to help her get used to her bed is a good one. Also, what about the possibility of her getting a small twin bed for the time being or is she keeping in the big bed for later possibilities?

Park, drive in movies,
My favorite is a stay at home picnic, hang twinkle lights over the sofa pick movies and games, lots of pillows and blankets. Maybe build a tent like camping indoors. Fun foods that you can eat with your fingers.
Make shift tent stuffed wild animals like a pretend safari.

Eame really was a great help to him at the beginning of this chapter! I'm pretty sure she could make him see, that he didn't do anything wrong before. But Bella needed to figure things out for herself, and sometimes guilt is hard to loose....
The Christmas fare was sweet! Even if they had to get some space after that, it was beautiful to see her family let him in:) But of course that would be something throwing her off guard, not that the kids liked him, but I guess how fast it went...

I think a year is a goodly amount of time to grieve. Its not like shes jumping right into his bed, just starting to date is all. If she stayed that depressed and sad for more than a year she could be in serious emotional trouble. Shes been seeing a therapist so she should very well be starting to heal.

You are so right about Betty White! She's about twenty years older than I am and I wish she was my mom! Mine has been gone fourteen years and I miss her! Bella had a fairly good day, considering what day it was. It was so cute to hear Esme tattle on her boys that way, I really laughed, as did Bella! It was tough when she broke down on the way home, and wonderful that Edward stopped to help. The session with Shelly was really good, and it must have helped them all to talk to Billy. Over all, Bella did all the right things for her, what felt right to do, giving away Jake's things and putting her rings away for the kids.

I think her reactions are totally normal. The guy had a mostly drawn out death that the family had to watch and he hasn't been dead even a year yet. She's supposed to just jump on the next horse right away? That is totally unrealistic.

Bless Edward...he's such a genuinely good, kind-hearted person who has the patience of a saint. LOL
Me, personally, I honestly don't think I would or could get involved with someone who was still so hung up on their dead spouse, & most likely always will be in some way.
I just don't think I could handle that kind of baggage - always being second, or even third in someone's heart or being compared to someone else, not to mention adding 2 kids into the mix who are probably going to see Edward as the enemy. It's certainly not going to be easy. Life is hard enough without adding any unnecessary stress to it, & I feel like that's what Edward is signing up for.
It would just be too much for me - a ready made, dysfunctional family, especially considering that Edward's got enough of his own problems to deal with. It would just be too overwhelming for me.
Edward's young, & probably wants a family of his own someday, I imagine. I just can't understand why he would want to get involved with this Bella. I doubt she'd ever want to remarry or have more children.
I don't mean to sound cruel or insensitive, but she DOES have way too much baggage. I think they should just stay great friends, otherwise, Edward will only end up getting the short end of the stick, as usual when dealing with Bella.
