My Girl, My Wife

E PoV

Today is Valentine's Day, a holiday that most women look forward to. I have a love/hate relationship with the day. Today there are women who are getting flowers, candy, jewelry, getting ready for a night out and women who are getting proposals. Well for me on this day five years ago I was one of those women, I still am.

Five years ago to the day I was getting ready to have a sexy night in with my man when I got a text saying he thought we should see other people that he had gotten bored and our sex life had gone stale "I know what an ass, right?". Needless to say that was the last I had heard from him and good freaking riddance, I did not need nor want a man like that.

That is where the hate comes from. The love part, well the love part comes from on this day three years ago another man, a man who has brought light into my life asked me to be his girl. Stefan Salvatore and his brother had moved home when Damon's wife found out she was pregnant.

I knew of the Salvatore's because we all went to the same school but Stefan and Damon were two years above me, so while I knew who he was he had no clue about me, at least at the time that is what I thought. Come to find out he did know about me but didn't know how to approach me.

Knocking on the door interrupts my memories. Walking to the door, I see a deliveryman.

"Miss Elena Gilbert?"

"Yes, I'm Miss Gilbert."

"These are for you miss." He hands me a vase of my favorite flowers with a card and I see the card is from Stefan.

Smiling I thank him and turn to read the card.

Dear Lena,

It has been three years since you have agreed to be my girl and I have never been happier. I am sorry I was not there to wake up with you in my arms, I know I told you I would be busy with business meetings but I lied instead I plan to take you down memory lane.

Here is a little poem for you.

Elena

Just to say I love you never seems enough.

I've said it so many times I am afraid you won't understand what I really mean when I say it.

How can so much feeling, so much adoration possibly fit into those three little words.

But until I find some other way of saying what I feel, then "I love you" will have to do.

So no matter how many times I say it, never take it lightly, for you are my life, and my only love.

I love you more than ever before.

Meet me on the high school football field at 6:30 I will be waiting.

Smiling I reread the card before checking on the time. Seeing it's already 5:30, I run up to take a shower and to get dressed ready to see what Stefan has planned.

Pulling up in the parking lot, I notice the entire place is empty; usually there are people still at the school and on the field at this time. Walking to the field brings back so many memories Stefan was the star quarterback until his last year during the last game he threw out his arm.

He could have been a college football player if it was not for that but when he threw out his arm he got into business. I was a cheerleader in high school I was offered head cheerleader but I decided to pass on it and Caroline who to this day I am still friends with got the position.

Walking to the fence I see a small opening, looking around I know I am the only person here. Making my way to the field, I see candles in the center of it. I make it to the center and there is another vase of my favorite flowers. Smiling and shaking my head I pick it up and look for a card, finding it I open and read it.

Elena,

This field once was the place where all my dreams came true. When I threw, my arm out I was a lost sad boy who didn't think he knew how to do or be anything else. One day sitting in class at college I decided I would take a trip home and sit on the middle of the field and maybe something would come to me. However, that day the only thing that happened was that, I saw an angel and that angel was you Elena. You were just getting done with cheerleading practice for the game that night; you were talking and laughing with your friends. I decided at that very moment that while I was staying for the game it would not be to watch the game it would be to just maybe catch another glimpse of you.

Meet me at the spot where we had our first kiss. You are getting closer to where I am. I cannot wait to hold you in my arms again.

Stefan

Smiling I wonder where he is exactly but I do love this walk down memory lane. Okay he said to meet at the spot where we had our first kiss. That was an easy one our first kiss was at the park in the middle of town under the biggest tree.

Making my way to the park I, notice under the tree there is a picnic basket. Shaking my head, I wonder what he is up to with all of this. Walking over to the basket, I see a card underneath the handles of the basket. Opening the basket there are wine glasses and a bottle of the same champagne we had on our first date. Looking at the card it says "Read Me".

Under this tree, we had our first kiss. You were so beautiful that night. We had just had our first date and I just knew you were going to slap me if I had kissed you but then you surprise me by making the first move. Here is another little poem for you.

Sweetheart...

At times, I can't find words enough to express how deeply I feel for you...

But I want you to know that you hold a very special place in my heart...

And with every passing day, I'm falling more and more in love with you!

And I do every day that I wake and look at you I have to wonder what I did to deserve you. I knew on our first date that I had fallen in love with you. Some people search for that one person their entire life, all I had to do was come home, and there you were like a beacon of light in the dark.

The next clue is where we had our first date.

Stefan

Okay our first date is one night I will always remember. Stefan had worked late that night but swore that no matter what he would not cancel our date. After getting off, he picked me up, took me to his house, and cooked me my favorite Italian dinner. Our date was cut short when his brother and new sister in-law came home so we decided to take a walk and ended up in the middle of town under this huge tree.

Getting out of my car, I see Damon standing in the doorway.

"Hey,"

"Hey girlie," He said hugging me.

"There are two picnic baskets waiting for you in the kitchen."

"Two? Do you know what he is up to?"

"Yes, yes I do and I'm not telling you so don't ask."

"Fine," I say laughing and make my way to the kitchen.

Looking in the baskets, one has some kind of dinner and the other has candles and wine glasses. Looking around for a card, I don't see one.

"Did he leave a card?" I ask Damon who just walked in the kitchen.

"Yea he said it would be up in your room."

"Okay, thanks. Did you and Bonnie have a good Valentine's Day?"

"Yes we did and as soon as you leave we will continue to have a good day."

"Oh, ohhh okay well then I'll just go get my card and leave you two to it." I say laughing.

Running up to mine and Stefan's room, I look around to see if I can find the card. I find it on our pillows.

Elena,

You will find me at the exact spot where I asked you to be mine.

Smiling I know where he is now.

An hour and a half later, I pull up to my parent's lake house. Stefan brought me here for Valentine's Day weekend three years ago after 5 months of dating. I had walked out on to the dock and was watching the sunset when I heard him walk up behind me. He had brought out a blanket to wrap around me and as we watched the sunset with me in his arms, he asked me to be his girl even though I already was.

Opening the door, I call out but do not get an answer.

"Stefan?"

Walking to the window in the kitchen, I see him standing out on the dock.

"Hey, what's this?" I ask seeing him standing next to a table.

"Did you bring the picnic baskets?" He asks me.

"Yea they're in the kitchen."

"Wait right here and I'll be back." He tells me before running off to the house.

When he comes back, he starts setting the table with the candles, champagne, the glasses and lastly the dinner. Watching him, I notice he is recreating our first date.

"Stefan, what is all of this?" I ask him.

"Just read this last card and you will understand everything." He tells me handing me another card.

My love,

To live and love with you and be one forever.

To be near you so I can reach out and touch you.

To make love with you, laugh with you, cry with you, talk with you, and be silent with you.

To hold you close every night, waking up to you each morning.

To share my secrets with you and to be honest with you.

To understand and respect you, accepting you for you.

To find shelter in you when I am afraid, and hold you when I need warmth.

To be with you through all the seasons, walking with you in the sunshine and cuddling with you in the cold.

To care for you when you are ill, and be joyful with you when you are happy.

To grow old with you, and be with you until the end of my time.

With you only, I want all these things.

For you only, I would do all these things.

To you only, all my love.

Stefan

"Stefan this poem, this whole day has been beautiful, thank you." I tell him with tears in my eyes.

"And it's not done yet."

"What," I look up at him only to find him on one knee holding out a box to me.

Gasping I open the box and staring back at me is a beautiful yellow engagement ring with diamonds around the stone and all along the ring itself.

"Elena Gilbert these past three years with you has been the best years of my life. There is nothing in the world that would make me happier than you agreeing to be my wife. Will you please give me the honor of marrying you and making you my girl, my wife for the rest of my life?

"Yes! Yes Stefan I will marry you." I cry falling to my knees so I can kiss him.

Pulling back, he slides the ring on finger, "There now it's perfect."

End Notes:

I know it's a little late but I am going through a death of a family member and moving back to my home town so I'm not sure when I'll be able to post anything else. Please review and let me know what you think and if you would like a sequel.
