Edward was lucky Carlisle and Eleazar were close. Those three had a strong agenda and no will to back off or stop what they were doing. Tanya can really be manipulative. She used all of her knowledge to lure Esme into her bizarre idea.
Esme now is feeling really bad, sadly she should, she was "brain washed" She was shown things that for her are completely wrong. Using this Tanya was able to confuse Esme's mind until it was thinking what Tanya wanted. Fortunately, a mother's love in the end is so strong, it can brake the walls made to keep it locked.
Edward's siblings' presence at class, seems like a good effort trying to make Edward not be so angry. It might have worked, well have to wait and see.
