I absolutely loved this. It's exactly how things should have been talked out.   Great Job

At last, someone who does it right! This is exactly the way it should have gone, in the woods beyond Charlie's house. Logic and common sense and hanging on with both hands and both hearts!

I loved this!! I've often wondered what, if anything, Bella could have said to make Edward stay. I think this was perfectly done, because it embraces all of the issues in their relationship that caused Edward to be able to leave; that caused him to make all of the decisions in their relationship, forcing Bella into this passenger role on the sideline. Thanks for sharing!

Author's Response:

Hi,

thanks so much for reading and leaving a review. I tried to stick to canon as much as possible, meaning I didn't change the inherent characteristics of Edward and Bella, I just gave her a little bit more backbone. It always struck me as odd, starting in NM, that the girl who told off a vampire would then be reduced to a sidekick. I also thought it was rather strange, despite Bella's tendencies to put Edward on a pedestal, that she didn't see the lies for what they were - a desperate attempt to keep her safe, at least in Edward's mind. The fact that he is leaving not three days after the birthday party, not three days after he told her how he envies Romeo the ease of death, because he once had to contemplate how to find his own during the James debacle, and she just believes that he suddenly doesn't love her anymore? Seriously? Where was her head that day? Where was the girl from Twilight who wouldn't take crap from a broody, moody Edward?

So this was my attempt at fixing that. Glad you liked it. I'm thinking of maybe extending this for a few more chapters if and when inspiration strikes.

Thanks again.

DAMN now that is the Bella I would have expected in Twilight she never back down from anything els but she fell for his I don't love you line!!! Thank you for writing this it is BEAUTIFUL, STRONG and shows the vulnerability of both Bella and Edward in short it was BRILLIANT!!!

Author's Response: Yeah, that always struck me as a little odd that she believed him so quickly. Apparently, Edward felt that way, too, since he brings it up at the end of New Moon. Glad you liked it! Thanks for leaving a review! TMoT

Wow, I really liked this.  I usually don't read one shots, because I don't generally like short stories of any kind. But I was tempted when I saw the story summary, and i'm so glad I did.  Ever since I started reading twilight fan fiction, I've been longing to read a Neww Moon AU in which Edward doesn't leave.  How would the rest of the series have gone if he hadn't.  No love triangle, no trip to Italy?  So, though this is a one shot, it is the essence of what i would so like to read.  This was beautifully written.  Edward's final breakdown on his knees had me in tears.   I loved tough love Bella style, and how she didn't let him get away with it.  It was wonderful!  I wish you'd continue it so we could see just how things might have been different if he hadn't left!  Wonderful story.

Author's Response:

Wow - thanks so much!!! Yes, I am considering to extend this into a few more chapters as there seems to be more left to say.

And if you're so inclined, I have a WIP that's AU called Resurrection that starts at the end of Eclipse to fix the mistakes SM made in that book. Perhaps you'd be interested.

Thanks again!
