Bless Carlisle's compassion and medical skills! He did a great job of helping Alice to remember her human life a bit, and then to put it away where it wouldn't haunt her! It was horrifying to read about her father raping and killing little girls! He got justice when the last girl's father killed him, too bad Alice's mother was caught in the crossfire! Thank you for this glimpse into what makes Alice the way she is!

Author's Response:

I can't believe you even read this one!  I wrote this for those who don't want to tackle one of my marathon stories.  I wanted to write Alice in a way that I could appreciate her shallow interests.  I just find it hard to connect with someone who cares so much about fashion, make-up, presents and parties.  But giving her a flip side she's trying to forget... I could totally buy it.  In fact her past being a blank, her time in a mental hospital, and her visions of the future, all make her a much deeper character than we see most of the time.  Hypnotism really isn't magical mind control, it's just a way of relaxing, letting go of worries, and being guided by the hypnotist.  I'd bet Alice does remember, and has to work to forget.  I always see Alice as someone with the abiltiy to compartmentalize her mind, as a way to deal with her visions.  Carlisle is able to just guide her and let her remember in the safety of the session, then she can close the door again.

Brilliant!  Brilliant!  Brilliant!  Learning Alice's past and through hypnosis!  No wonder she doesn't want to remember.  The fear, the loneliness, and the plain and simple heartache...  No wonder she needs Jasper as her other half.  I adored the logic and flat out emotion of this piece?

Author's Response:

Thank you so much for taking a chance on this story.  I have so much trouble writing short fiction, so I was very pleased with how this turned out.  I guess I had to write this, because Aice is my least favorite Cullen.  I just don't appreciate the things that drive her.  I figure she's got the most awesome ability, and an intense past, yet she seems so shallow.  I had to give her some depth.  Thanks for the entusiastic review.
