I like the freedom that fanfiction can give you as a writer. It's like a stepping stone: all the characters are already there, so you don't need to worry about character development so much, you can just get stuck into the story. Letting yourself take inspiration from another writer's world can help build your own confidence as a writer, which can only ever be a good thing.
