Wow! Great chapter - LOTS of stuff happening!
I'm NOT happy with Edward's lapse of good manners at Karen's. That was really jerky of him to ignore her like that. He always has a hand touching her somewhere, and to not hold on to her and not immediately introducing her, shame on you Edward!
At the party, I was sad to not see them dance. It would've been something comfortingly sweet, especially after Bella got so dressed up for him. I'm curious, tho - did Jason NOT really know how involved Mary and Edward were when they starting dating? He seemed too nicely sincere when meeting the family. I wonder if Mary hadn't told him that Edward was just an "ex"?
Hopefully, next chapter you could expound a little on what Christmas presents people got? Especially what Bella and Edward got each other?
Something's bothering me, from previous chapters. Jake was with Charlie at the Cullen's for Christmas, comfortably so, and everyone seemed to know him. He's been around forever, and Edward was around for the past 6 years, enough for Jake to know that Bella and Edward argued all the time. So why did Edward feel he had to introduce himself in Ch. 1? ("We haven't met before," Edward said, extending his hand to Jacob. "I'm Edward.") Just kinda bothered me. (When you re-read this as many times as I do, little 'off' things tend to bother - sorry!)

Mary was calling Edward her "ex" within a week of knowing Jason. She told Jason that the breakup was amicable and the two were still very good friends - her excuse for spending time with both men. She's an opportunist and they know a million ways to put a spin and seem innocent.
I didn't really get into Christmas gifts because so many other things go on, but you will find out something that Bella got for Edward.
Edward knew of Jacob and Jacob of Edward, but they were never formally introduced. Jacob stayed away from Edward, considering him a "douche" and Edward pretty much stayed away from everyone to stay away from Bella. Remember that Edward had no idea of what Jacob's place was in Bella's life - his introducing himself that night was his way of trying to feel out Jacob and see if he was a threat or not.

And that suddenly dumped into unfamiliar surroundings is so strong! But yeah, Edward not being absolutely perfect makes him more real. And I agree, he still is even when he screws up. LOL!

Oh my god, that was... harrowing. Both of them got hit by wrecking balls in one day.
I got so freaking choked up when they went to visit Karen. How amazing of Edward not to figure out what was really going on sooner. I know he's used to her being outspoken, but normally he's so much more aware and attentive of her. And hasn't he figured out yet that a lot of the noise she makes is because part of her is completely shit scared?
Gah, I still have a lump in my throat thinking about Bella. Guess that kinda hit too close to home for me.
Love this story. Guess it's kinda obvious by how attached I am to your characters. :)

In Edward's defense, he's really not used to people being so excited to see him. So to suddenly have Karen jumping around and talking non-stop to him the way Alice does to Bella, he just got lost in the moment. And yes, he's usually attentive to Bella, but something he's not saying is he was just as nervous as she was for her to meet Karen. I'm purposefully saving some things to go back and do Edward POVs at the end of the story, but this is one where I should have had him explain. Karen was there for all the Mary crap and Karen * never * liked Mary. And Karen being so right about Mary scared Edward b/c he was afraid of what would happen if she didn't like Bella. We can look at it from the outside and know how silly he's being, but for him, he's right in the middle and can't see the forest for the trees.

I'm going to talk about a couple of chapters since I haven't reviewed the past few. Someone needs to get this site to come up with a mobile version or an iPhone app so I can review from my phone. My hubby commandeers the PC most of the time, so I don't have access to the review option.
Anywhoo...LOVED the meadow and how they are opening up to each other. I have yet to read anything that warrants WTB Bella being so hard on herself, but I suppose that is just her character. She gets herself so worked up and I keep expecting for her to say that she's pretty much murdered someone, and then her truths come out and I have to giggle a bit for her being so uptight about it. I love the fact that Edward takes it all in stride and is not allowing her to run. You can see how much he truly loves her. I felt like my heart was going to break for him if he had to spend Christmas away from her. I would have done exactly what he did and got in the car to go and get her.
I am, however, very nervous about this ball. More so because WTB Bella has her mind made up that she is just going to royally fuck it all up. She's her own worst enemy! Please let her know that I have total faith that she will knock it out of the park and charm the pants off everyone. Looking forward to Saturday for another yummy update!

You said it exactly ... She's her own worst enemy! We all are to some degree. We all have things in our past that seem so huge and insurmountable to us, but not to others. And that's where Bella's head is at right now. She still feels so much guilt over her past that she expects people to find it as horrible as she did when she went through those times. She's not yet used to people understanding her. But Edward's willing to get her there if she can let him.

Bella sees Jacob as a child still. He's just a teenager that needs to be looked after, so there is no way she would ever let him drive late at night by himself. His lack on knowledge on her scar is for the same reason. She sees Jake as young and impressionable and she wants to keep him from making the same mistakes she did, or learning about life too fast. In her opinion, he's just not old enough to really understand why she did certain things, like diving that day.
A rental car never crosses Bella's mind because it's something she wasn't capable of doing before - she's only been 21 for a couple of months. Before that, any rentals in her life came through Alice via Carlisle and his credit card.

I love that Jacob is more like the kid brother here and not a love interest. I feel for him. I know all to well what it is like to lose your father at a young age, and even after 12 years, it doesn't feel better. You stop dwelling over it daily, but it isn't better. I look forward to reading about his reunion with Bree. I think that it will be good for him. I hope all goes well :)

Much of her past will be revealed soon. Bella isn't going to just open up and talk about her scars to just anyone. She needs to feel that she can truly trust Edward to understand. She will get there, but it will be a few more chapters before it happens. Emmett just likes who he likes - like Jasper. Eventually though, things will ease up between Edward and Emmett.

I continue to extremely enjoy the banter back and forth between these two. I like how they have both decided to just let go and feel. It's better in the long run to just enjoy it while it is happening. You can't go back. So I see that you like to incorporate music into your stories. While riding in the car the other day, one of my fav songs from my high school times played. I couldn't help but envision the guys singing this one to Alice, Bella, and Rose. Now I am about to totally date myself, but I am hoping you've heard it. Check it out--Mr. Big, To Be With You. A little cheesy, but it could make for a cute scene while sitting around the house playing. Anyway, great job and more please!

Awe, Bella's moment of perfection was so sweet. I think Edward found the perfect time to actually say the words "I love you" to Bella. I think the fact that Bella didn't freeze up or freak out says a lot about how much she is really changing and how deep her feelings run for Edward.

Okay, never expected Bree to be a dude. Great job keeping that a secret. I totally get why Bella is hurt, but I think I also understand Edward's reaction. He obviously is head over heels for Bella and to actually see her in another guys arms and telling him she loves him has to rip his heart out. He did say the only thing he will not do is share.
