That was not the proposal I expected at all, but in Edward fashion it was romantic and he proposed in the place he first fell in love with her.

Oh how sad and I agree how hard it must be to experience that from a professional POV.
I had a friend lose her husband suddenly to an previously unknown medical condition right after she gave birth to her first child. I was only a few weeks pregnant at the time with my first and it was terrifing to imagine losing my husband and raising my child alone. Those fears can grip you and it can be hard to let go of them. You have to but man it is hard to get past them.

So much so I have not even had contact with her in close to a decade yet she lives just 25 minutes away. I am glad Bella stayed strong and stood up to her while Edward let her fight her own battle yet stayed there to provide support and a shoulder for strength & love.

This chapter really did have a mix of alot of emotions. I am sorry to hear you have a mother like that. I am guessing that since you haven't had contact with her she's never apolagized or changed. It's really sad that neither her or Renee can see that they are only pushing the ones they love away.

It had completely baffled and amazed me how fast Alice, Esme, Rose and I had been able to pull together all the details for my and Edward’s wedding. It had only taken us three weeks to pull it all together.
Our first task had been to reserve the View Point Inn and the second had been to find my dress. Alice had said that once those two things were accomplished the rest would fall into place. Of course she had been right and after scouring several online sites, looking through every page of every Bride’s magazine Alice could get her hands on and spending a weekend in Seattle combing every bridal shop there was, we had done it. I had my dress and had known it was the one the instant I’d seen it.
There had been a few bittersweet moments along the way though. We had all gone to Seattle on the excursion to find my gown and the bridesmaid dresses. While Alice, Rose, Esme and me had gone shopping for the gowns, the men had gotten fitted for their tuxes and had gone to the college football game at U-Dub. But when Alice and Esme talked about some of the experiences they’d had while shopping for Alice’s wedding gown, I couldn’t help wishing things were different between my mother and me. I couldn’t help thinking that she should be there with me, helping me choose my dress and taking part in all of the planning of my wedding. And I couldn’t help but wish that I could at least know that she was happy for Edward and me.
For the most part I had not let what she’d done interfere at all in my life. I was so very, very happy with Edward and I loved him so much.
However there were just times like now, when I was contemplating on whether or not I should send her an invitation that I couldn’t deny how much it hurt. She was my mother and was supposed to be happy for me.

I had toyed with the idea of not having them work out their differences, but then also thought about the fact that Renee is the only living parent Bella has and that if she truly changed that Bella would welcome her back into her life once she was certain that Renee was being sincere. I also thought about having Edward and Bella walk down the aisle together since Charlie isn't there or having her go alone, but neither of those ideas felt right and Carlisle doing it did since him and Esme had always been like a second set of parents to Bella.

“Yes ma’am,” he replied.

Bella shook her head and rolled her eyes at him and then continued, “He is trouble with a capital ‘T’. You are Edward’s best man correct?”

“That means you are responsible for him. To make sure he doesn’t get in any kind of trouble tonight because of that one over there.” She pointed at Emmett again while the rest of us struggled to keep from laughing at the surprised look on my brother’s face. Bella then looked back at Jasper and continued. “That also means I am holding you responsible for making sure Edward comes back to me with not a hair on his head injured. I’m putting my trust in you as his best friend and as his best man. I am holding you personally responsible for him tonight. Think you can handle that?”
