So far I like this story. It doesn't have overtly gratuitous scenes of violence against women, and I appreciate it.
Some of the scenes seem similar to situations that actually happened in actual cults. Kudos to taking the time to research (I'm assuming that you did) and also adding your own original twists.
I have a friend who's parents were members of a cult when she was a teen. The cult took every penny from the family, and had also insisted that my girlfriend was possessed by a demon and needed an exorcism. Yeah. She spends a lot of money on therapy and, as strong as she is, the nightmares of her past caught up to her. She is at the point where she is unable to work, and is on a lot of medications.
I know this is fiction, however, like you've mentioned, these things truly happen.

I am really enjoying your story and think this brainwashing stuff is scary as hell, that people can be mentally reprogrammed like that...yikes!
