Edward's father is hiding several things respecting Bella. The thing is we have no idea what they might be. Aro is also being too persistent, why? He let her go in the first place, so why is he changing his mind now?
As for Edward, he has his hands full at the momet, he needs to figure out what his father and Aro are up to, keep Bella safe, make her feel safe and trust him, plus the rest of his responsabilities. I agree with you, it's much better, and gives the story a better twist. Rosalie suspected before meeting Bella, after seeing her, there was no doubt. She is a good and strong woman.
