Yes it was that way in those times. Men, especially Kings, thought themselves 'God's Gift' (some nowadays still do). The punishments in Tudor times were also quite cruel and violent.

I tried to make it realistic. Women, whether they were wealthy or porr, did not have choices. They were second class citizens and the men in their lives made the decisions with no input from the women, even if the matter was concerning them. Bella is definitely in a crappy position that I don't think any woman living in today's society would want to be in.

Yay- an update!! Alright, so the king now officially has Bella on his radar...the attraction doesn't seem to be mutual at the moment, though! So, either things will change pretty soon or Bella is just good at covering it up! But then again, she was the Queen's maiden- it was probably inappropriate to gush over the queens hubby =)
I'm reading UC myself and I love it! Or better, I started reading UC, and fell in love but due to a lack of time I missed out on quite a few updates now and probably need to start with chapter 1 again soon! Not that I terribly mind- it's a really good story! ^^ Tanya basically giving her permission and even 'tips' was quite nice! AT least one thing less to worry about! ^^
As for the question - Well, I'm not one to give away free performances soft porn style on the dance floor, but if the right song is playing, I have my friends and had at least two drinks, I totally flaunt it! =)

King Edward will have to work quite hard to gain any mutual attraction from Bella. Bella is as she appears. Yes he is handsome, but she is not one to care for looks. The reason for this will be looked at in a later, somewhat emotional, chapter. Queen Tanya has given up and realises that there is no hope for her and Edward anymore. She would much rather have him cared for by soemone she knows to be just, good, kind and loyal rather than one of the court whores.
I enjoy UC too but it wasn't until I visited the forum on Twilighted that I realised so many people were up in arms regarding the situation Edward is currently in.
*high fives* I'm definitely the same in regards to the dancing with my friends and alcohol though I have been known on occasion to go the soft porn style performance on the dance floor on occassion :P

You are the only person so far to have pointed out both Lauren's age and her relationship to King Edward's mistress. A younger bride was considered to be more fertile and Edward is after all an ass. His redeemable qualities are unlikely to show until about chapter 9 I'm afraid.

This is a slightly different Edward for me to write...well all my Edward's have been quite different :P He's a royal ass that will be greatly hated because of his treatment towards our darling Bella but will redeem himself (hopefully in my reader's eyes) in the end. In regards to him being a bit of a man whore (or even a complete one :P) you'll just have to wait a couple more chapters until that information is divulged. I shouldn't kill you with this one as it will definitely not be as angsty as the others...though that isn't saying muh as the others are really high up on the level of angst every chapter has *smiles*
I think I'd die without my fics now so I'd definitely agree with you that anywhere with them in hand is a good place.

Edward is frustrated by his lack of heir and being male he obviously feels something is wrong with Tanya if his issue can not hold in her womb. This is the seventh miscarriage Tanya has had and the plans have been in place for some time if Tanya did not produce a male heir, as she has not. Yes he could still have been kinder to her, but he's an ass.
Bella is from a noble family that is high up on the social ladder. She is unmarried and, as ladies-in-waiting during Tudor times, was a companion of the queen. Bella herself was confidant to the queen as Queen Tanya thought quite highly of her. Due to her social standing and marital status, yes King Edward can marry Bella.

Hey!
First off, I think the start was really good. The first chapter gave enough insight without telling too much (if that made any sense^^)- and I like the premise. Hmm..Edward seems like a wee bit like an ass =) but then again, he is a king and they tend to be like that!^^ I don't think that ten years age difference is too bad, besides Bella is eighteen...again not too bad (in my book at least). I can see what you mean when you say that King Edward will resemble King Henry VIII somewhat, or better, that there will be resemblances in the story. Tanya getting ditched and then send to live in an Abbey just like Catherine of Aragon was really good. I wonder though, if Bella already lived in the castle as lady wouldn't Edward must have noticed her before? Oh well, he probably did....anyway, we are going to get ther, soon I hope! =)
Alright, I actually have two places I like to hide out in to escape everything: one being a park bench next to a small pond. It's really secluded and peaceful but unfortunately, the bench is often occupied by the older folks since it's placed near an retirement home. I know better than to kick the ols folks from their bench =) The other one would be my bed. Earplugs in, favorite music playing and completely hidden underneath my blanket. I know it sounds somewhat childish, but seriously, there's no better place than you own bed! ^^

I'm glad you like my premise. Yes Edward is an ass (no wee bit-ing about it :P). In regards to the age difference I had considered making her younger but from my own experience from reading certain fics I have found that there are more flamers if an author does that, so eighteen it is. I love the story of Henry VIII and not just because of The Tudors - though Jonathan Rhys Meyers is gorgeous! There will be some resemblances such as Tanya going to the Abbey, the next wife being a lady in waiting to the previous queen and the king's character. Edward hasn't noticed Bella previously for which you'll understand in the next chapter entitled 'Flaunting' :)
Lying in bed, blaring your music into your ears and hidden from the world under your duvet has to be one of the best places I reckon! It's where I like to be most too.

I've never been a Tanya fan, so I'm not shedding tears at this point, but I do feel a little sorry for her considering Edward is acting like a total ass.
