Oh dear, I hope Jacob breaking the treaty first will make what Bella has told him invalid, so to speak. Still, she's human and not bound by it at all in the first place. I like how she said she didn't want to be a vampire but their friend. While I do hope someday she will be immortal (so she'll never die) I am glad she can enjoy being human too. :)
I really liked this chapter! I am kinda glad she's a touch disenchanted with Jacob, less stress. I loved Esme's realizations. Poor Edward must have felt so alone in those moments. I hope he will find a confidant in Bella. I am glad Bella refuses to be run roughshod by Alice. While I know Alice is well-meaning it is indeed Bella's life and incredibly unfair for Alice to decide the directions in which it goes. Big things (disasters, etc) make sense but the pants you wear on a certain day? Naw. ;)
Okay, enough rambly. I loved this update. I am so hopeful for all of them. I liked Charlie too, I really liked seeing more about him and his decisions.
Author's Response: At this point Bella hasn't even considered becoming a vampire, as far as she is concerned the Cullen's have only befriended her to get Edward back, though she isn't bitter about this at all. I wouldn't go so far as to say Bella is ENJOYING being human, I think she is just existing at this point. I always thought that Edward's reactions to Alice moving in were too mild. When I first read the Twilight series I had a 17 year old boy myself and I know he damn well wouldn't have stood it without some display of temper. (not that I would have blamed him in the slightest if I had been stupid enough to allow something like that to happen)

Good for Esme! I'm glad she's decided to protect Bella from Alice. With the very best of intentions, Alice can be overwhelming at times. I have my fingers crossed that she and Edward are going to get along when they meet!

I may be repeating myself, but I have to say it, Renee is a selfish, greedy bitch! All the genetic makeup for Bella must have come from Charlie, because she is nothing like her mother, thank God! I have a theory about Phil, that he's not really into Renee, it was only a way to keep an eye on Bella and make sure Renee didn't harm her child any more than usual! No wonder Bella is comfortable around the Cullen family, they're much nicer to her than her own mother ever was! Poor Charlie, he must be sick over how his ex-wife treated their child, and he doesn't know the half of it!

I am glad Bella has a friend in every class. I loved Rose and Alice in this chapter, ooh Emmett and Jasper too. Of course, Bella is always on that list. I really smiled when I saw Charlie's policy on not wanting to force friends on her - he is a good dad. Lauren and Jessica are just harpies who will get uglier with age and given that they are so young...shrudders. ;) I liked her reaction to Mike too. I am glad Bella seems to have a slightly thicker skin though a bit sad at the way she acquired it. Regardless, this update was really fantastic!

I really liked this chapter! I hope Bella takes some of the clothes -- warm clothing is a must in chilly areas. I am curious what Bella wanted to do when she turned 18, what kind of plans she may or may not have had. I was a bit surprised at the school rule -- since I've never heard of such a thing -- but I like it since it gives her a reason to be where she'll be. That's part of the joys of fiction. :) I hope she does better at Forks High than at other schools, though I kinda hope she doesn't fall into false friendship (Jess, Lauren, etc) too. I love that Alice screwed things up with Edward! Her visions always going picture perfect seemed unrealistic to me. Such tiny spur-of-the-moment thoughts and actions can knock a situation so off kilter, and this story shows the truth of that.
It's a shame that Bella feels like she's being used, though. I bet that will be an issue later.
Author's Response: As another reviewer pointed out, Edward may be 50 years old or so but he's still 17 and how many 17 year olds would stand a stranger coming in and displacing them in the family without throwing some sort of tantrum? Really, with Bella's history she couldn't believe anything else. You will see other effects from her upbringing too later.

Author's Response: Bella is just under 8 1/2 years old. I always thought that SM didn't make enough of Renee being so infantile, but from the Bella PoV she wrote and the way her Bella was it probably would have sounded like someone constantly whinging. My way of writing, from one perspective but still third person (like JA and P&P) at a time meant I could develop that aspect and my annoyance with her mother just took off and developed without me being able to stop it:-D
