After unexpectedly being given an antique desk and finding a letter written by Edward to his cousin over nine decades earlier in a hidden compartment, Bella, on a whim, decides to respond and starts them on a journey neither could have ever imagined.

Bella, a girl with sardonic wit and a freshly printed Masters degree, finds work with the Cullen Group, being, what she deems, an overpaid secretary who finds inventors and designers worthy of some funding.
Work should be dull, and would be had she not made one of her trademark, clearly well thought out decisions: she started sleeping with her employeer's son, who is one of her bosses himself, days after meeting him.
Classy Bella, really classy.
She deems him an odd and spoiled rich kid [he is on an insane liquid diet, he has two penthouse apartments for the reason of "just because," as far as she can tell, his sweat tastes like magic (okay she concedes that here, she might be the weird one,)and he comes in to work in suits worth more than her car that are ruined from his runs in Central Park.]
Weirder than all of this, he seems to want a actual relationship with her.

Yep.
The secret is I steal a lot from real life things that have happened to me or one of my friends. I did answer the door in lingerie expecting my boyfriend only to find one of my exs waiting there to give me a birthday present (okay it wasn't an engagement ring and we were good friends still so it wasn't this bad.)
It is actually a running joke in my life, me opening the door or looking through a window inappropriately/oddly/barely dressed to see someone I would never in my life hope sees me like that.

The truth is I sort of love Jake (heck if my boyfriend of eight years is anyone in the series he is totally Jake, he is a goofy mechanical engineer that is two years younger than me), I just don't love the way my CW Jake reacts to this situation.
Even without an Edward to close off Bella's heart she was never in love with him the way he was with her and that broke his heart. Bella was the one that got away and he really thought that after being blown off, for the seventh time by his new girlfriend (who also is not in love with him,) he thinks he maybe should just go after the first girl he loved.
From what Jake had heard through Billy, Bella is just in NYC with a new job and no friends (which is basically true other than a coworker Angela and of course, Edward,) and he really thinks that maybe they could make it work, they are both at that point where they should settle, him for less love than he deserves and her for someone she was only ever good friends with really.
Finding her in lingerie waiting for her lover is a slap in the face; it is nothing she would have done for him.
I also appreciate the feeling of having a prior claim on someone and feeling like you have rights to them even after you part (I have felt that sort of jealously watching exs go out with someone new , even if I would deny it to them on my deathbed.)

Yeah, when you see it from his side you will see he has been dropping hints like mad that he wants this to be more than a fling; my Edward might not be a Twilight style vamp and he may act out of character but he is still Edward at heart.

Thanks, as you can tell by word count and the time delay it took some work. I was never very sure about the middle (the dancing scene,) but it makes a lot of sense with the EPOV as it is laid out now (music is very important to that side of the story.)
