Good questions, my thinking is this. At that time her relationship with Edward was very new and hot and cold, in my AU while she knew what he was he didn't know her secret. With her magical abilities I would think she had an inkling that he would follow her, so the need to 'obliviated' the no_Maj/juggle would be rapists would inadvertently reveal her secret to Edward. I'm sure she would've kicked add had he not turned up. As for James, at that time she had an on going argument about being changed and I feel that in keeping to her character would have potentially used James to force that issue, again had Edward and the Cullens not arrived she would've no doubt kicked ass here too. Immature ? Yes but a lot of her 17 year old actions where.
