I think Edward's explanation for why he didn't bite her wrist was not complete. He explained that he stopped because it wasn't the way he wanted it to happen, without her agreement to do it together. In fact, he didn't buy her wrist because Jasper stopped him from doing it, urging Edward that Bella was about to wake or was coming around. How Edward explained it to Bella made it sound like he stopped because it wasn't the way he had hoped it would would happen. I think knowing how Bella is, she will pursue this even further. At least I hope she does. :-)

I agree. Edward's explanation is not the complete reason, as Jasper's interference did prevent him from changing her right at that moment. Edward is grateful to Jasper though because he doesn't want the choice to be made of desperation (even though the end result is what they both want). Even though Bella will suffer a great deal more pain with the change happening down the road, he does want Bella to have a voice in when that change happens. He wants her to be able to say goodbye to her dad, and anyone else. He wants her to be a full partner with him in the decision, and honestly, that will mean more to Bella in the long run. Between you and me though - I think he should have just changed her. ;)

Yes, Edward hesitated in Twilight. But Bella wasn't dying, she was just changing because of James' bite. It's not as if Edward stopping the change would mean death for her. Plus that was pre-NM, and I think that experience of being apart made Edward not hesitate at all when it came to life and death for Bella in BD. But perhaps your take is that since this Edward never had to confront the idea of Bella being dead, as he did in canon NM, that his hesitation would be more present? Hmmm, maybe. But I still think he would be more panicked at the thought of her dying and his hesitation being the reason why he will have failed her again. I just thought that the moment Edward had any inkling from Carlisle that she could die, that any doubt about changing her would be gone for good. Guess I just had to wait for one more chapter! Lol!!!

I love reading the way your mind dissects the chapter. :) I'm glad you see that Edward really wouldn't hesitate when faced with her actual death. He was just over analyzing as usual. And trust me, Bella will call him on that hesitation.

I was expecting this. And even though he didn't hesitate when it truly came down to the idea of losing her, he is still in a lot of trouble with Bella when she learns how long it took him to settle the doubt within him and no longer flinch at the hesitation. I hope Bella really lays into him for at least a little while and a little bit. After all, had she had an aneurysm, there is no way Edward could've saved her even by changing her. And that the risk was present at all is what I'm sure Bella will find difficult to fathom.

Stuck on that aneurysm aren't you. ;) She is pissed to say the least, however, just because she's awake does not mean she's out of danger yet. Thank you for the prayers. We're doing the best we can right now. Some moments are of course more difficult than others but we do have moments where we are smiling and laughing and of course relieved that he's at peace.

While I know that E would prefer that changing B was done under ideal circumstances (though for him they'd never be ideal enough), I always find it upsetting when he hesitates with even the thought of doing it in a critical situation such as this. With these kind of injuries, B can die instantly at any moment and E would be too late to do anything. Even in canon, E never hesitated a single second in changing B when she was dying. And yet here he's still debating what to do. One aneurism and it's all over in the blink of an eye. E should know that. I'm looking forward to seeing his epiphany on this. Thanks for the update!!!

Okay Isa!!! I see you! If you remember he DID hesitate in Twilight when the venom from James was at risk of changing her and she was bleeding out from her leg. Carlisle forced him to decide to either suck the venom out of her or let the change happen. Even Alice said "Edward, I've seen it!" He sucked the venom out refusing to let her be changed in that moment when she was already bitten. Then in Breaking Dawn - he also never wanted to change her until the moment Nessie bit her and he could see Bella slipping away - in his panic at that moment, after going through all they had and being married - only then did he change her and if you remember he didn't even think he had done it time. So I believe that it's very possible that even in these circumstances he would hesitate.

This was a fantastic and powerful chapter. I was riveted the entire time with the details you gave us. And how original and surprising that it was Esme that killed Victoria in the end! I was most definitely not expecting that, and yet I was truly impressed with the surprising twist. Excellent chapter! But now my heart breaks for poor Charlie. Can't wait to see what you do with this now.
