We will see a small bit from his POV in chapter 10 and I think you will understand more. Long story short, even if he's an ass, he's made sure Bella was safe from men taking advantage of her. Knowing she had this secret relationship, and knowing nothing about the true nature of the relationship, all he sees is that they snuck around, breaking the rules of courtship, and could have potentially done things to ruin his reputation which would reflect on him. I know it's confusing, but he's a strange guy in this fic. What will really surprise people is that he cares in whatever way he can...he just doesn't know how to love or relate to her...so he avoids her.

I think you did a wonderful job with this whole chapter. I am glad that Edward has Jasper for a sounding board. That he can talk to him and get advice from him. Hopefully Bella will be comfortable with Alice to talk to her and ask questions.
You are doing a GREAT job with this story. I love how you had Bella push Edward, even though it could have been dangerous for her. I am a little surprised that she did that with her history with what Jacob did. But that really did prove that she trust Edward. Edward was very patienc with her. I just hope that he can continue to be that patience with her.
